Blog-Linkity Goodness 12.1.10

On this Wednesday, I share with you:

1. Our Fox channel here in Birmingham, spotlighted my church recently and talked to our pastor about what we call The Radical Experiment. I know it's reached people across the U.S. and around the world because we hear stories from those people and pray for those people every Sunday. I have to say I'm humbled by what I'm seeing God do throughout this process and very thankful that I'm being led by such a man as David Platt, along with other men who have a passionate commitment to making disciples of all nations. Click here to see the news package and here if you have 24:06 to watch the raw video of his interview.

2. If you haven't gotten Dave Barnes' Christmas album "A Very Merry Christmas", you need to drop what you are doing and go to iTunes or Dave Barnes' website and get it NOW. Seriously. My Christmas music collection never knew what it was missing until baby came along. His original songs are amazing and his version of "The Christmas Song" is chasing Avalon's for best version ever made. And his video for "Christmas Tonight" has everything, including Jennifer Lowe Hewitt. Watch it now.

3. If you didn't see my post about fashionABLE or if you did and don't remember where you can get a scarf, go here. Y'all they are cutie-patooty and are for a great cause. I just ordered mine Monday and can't wait for it to arrive.

4. Annie Downs' book, From Head To Foot, comes out in SEVEN days, people. That's exciting. It's her first and I know it won't be her last. It's geared toward teenage girls but I know the themes in her book will touch all women, young and old. This is a writer I admire so so much, who inspires me to take hold of what God has for me, and who I consider one of my spiritual heroes. If you have a teenage girl in your life who is facing or about to face those tough, yucky teenage-y years, this would be a great gift for her.

5. If you haven't seen the video for David Crowder's song, "Shine", consider this your Christmas gift from me.

6. And what's an editioni of Blog-Linkity Goodness without a link to SCL. Jon Acuff hit the nail on the head with this serious Wednesday post about when things in life don't go exactly as you planned.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 10.26.10

Here are a few links I've found interesting recently.

1. This has to be the greatest capitalization of the dumbest reality TV move ever. Mad props to Bachelor Kasey (or the person who approached him with this idea)! Click here for a refresher of the dumbest reality TV move ever.

2. This post of Annie's I really loved because a) I love surfing and 2) I can totally relate.

3. I haven't heard much from Andy Merrick in a while but like always, when he comes back, he comes back with a bang. I may or may not have read this post four times today already.

4. In six days, it'll be November. Which means it's officially acceptable for me to listen to Christmas music. And I can't wait to purchase this. And this.

5. I guess when your job is done, your job is done. His reward awaits him in Octopus Heaven. Also, please look at the writer's headshot and tell that doesn't look like a police mugshot. I dare you.

6. I'm sure this comes in handy at some point.

7. And lastly, I also may or may not have watched this video (and this one) about seven times. I can't get over just how humble this guy is, but I guess after all that he's been through and what God has pulled him out of, there's no other way to be. I strongly believe that God does great things through people who constantly point back to him and since we are talking sports, I'll just mention a few names -- Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy (and here), David Tyree and Kurt Warner.

I'm not talking prosperity gospel, I'm talking about a God who uses people for His glory and people who live their life to make His glory known throughout the world.

That's inspiration enough for me.

Linky-Video Madness

Y'all, the bloggy neglect is out of control. You don't have to tell me. This I know.

With the athletic season cranking up, I haven't had the extra time that I usually do to spend blogging away about the nonsense around me. Plus, those episodes of Friday Night Lights and Rachael Zoe Project on my DVR aren't going to watch themselves.

Anyway, to break the silence on the blog today, I thought I'd share some webby nuggets I've either found or been introduced to this week. So here goes...

1. This video by our Director of Multimedia Services here at Samford Athletics makes me proud to work with such talented people. And it gets me excited for next Thursday night.

2. Another incredible post by Don Miller. I love how he focuses in on character on everything he does. Becauser really, that's what we are. And the post is so fitting for me right now as I try to figure out what the next step is for me in life. It's so true that knowing where you are going keeps you out of trouble.

3. Also another fantastic post by Mr. Acuff. So good and again, so fitting for me right now. Sometimes I think what I want to do is impossible. Or even living life the way God wants me to is impossible. And I wonder why God makes it so hard. But His Word says that when we are at our weakest point, that is when God loves to show off. Read it. You won't be sorry.

4. Allow me to introduce you to Catalog Living, if you don't already know what it is. Brilliant.

5. And last but most certainly not least, I hope everyone is as pumped for tonight's MSU vs. Auburn game as I am. I'll be watching with a few State fans and a few Auburn fans and well, y'all pray that I'll display a Christian attitude toward the opposition.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 9.10.10

So really, the blog neglect is out of control. But considering that I'm a little overwhelmed with life right now to be able to form complete sentences that might entertain the four people that read this, I'm going to go ahead and tell myself that it's okay.

However, I'm back today with another edition of Blog-Linkity Goodness. And trust me, there's some mega goodness today.

- Bryan Allain lives in Amish country and often times documents his sighting on his blog. This time he got video of them enjoying a little volleyball. I know it shouldn't be funny, but it just is.

- It was the bad call heard around the world. MLB umpire Jim Joyce's blown call last week that erased Detroit Tiger Armando Galarraga's perfect game sent sports fans, and non-sports fans, into an upheaval over whether the call should be reversed. Both Joyce and Galarraga handled it amazingly. And instead of putting my own thoughts here, I thought I'd let a professional do it. Here's Donald Miller's take. And it's a good one.

- If you didn't see America's Got Talent the other night, this is about the only thing you missed. And it was amazing.

Thoughts:
1. Nick Cannon lied. EVERY light didn't go off.
2. I'd like to visit that fraternity house.
3. Um, wow.

- Improv Everywhere does it again. Their latest mission.

- I've said it before and I'll say it again, these kids are amazing. And that voice is coming out of a 10-year-old.

- This post of Jon Acuff's from Stuff Christians Like spoke straight to me heart yesterday. Sometimes we're okay with letting God take over the steering but we still want to control the speed.

- And finally, Dave Barnes made his soap opera debut on All My Children yesterday and he'll be on again today with a real speaking part. If you missed it, full episodes are on ABC.com or catch the replays on SOAPnet. This is huge and I hope it's just the jumping off point for him. Here's a little behind the scenes look from Dave.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 5.19.10

It's time for more linkage. The internet kind. Not the hot dog kind.

- While my daddy was taking a little doctor ordered rest time last month, he decided to go fishing on day and take my furry little brother, Randy, along. Randy always makes things interesting. This outing was nothing different. Check out his story here.

- Also get his take on cowbells here too. It's always good to hear a players' perspective on the subject.

- This post of Jon's at Stuff Christians Like is hilarious. It includes Justin Beiber, Ludacris and the Black Eyed Peas.

- I'm not a big Paul Finebaum fan but the day I read this I was. He wrote a great article on Dan Mullen and the future he has in college football. If you bleed Maroon and White and haven't read it yet, click here.

- Did you see American Idol last night? Did you see Lee Dewyze, who might have to fight Tim Tebow, for my hand in marriage? No? Watch this.

- Last but not least, I hate that I've waited this long to share this with you bloggites, but it's only because I've waited this long to watch it. This is a link to my church's Easter service. (And just for fun, I've embedded the video player below.) David focused on the Love Story that is presented in the book of Ruth. If you don't know the story, please go read it. It's only four chapters and it will change your life. I think I've studied this story about three times in the last three years and it gets better every time. It's such a beautiful, TRUE, realization of our need for the redemption that can only come from Jesus Christ and the immense love of a God that actively pursues us day after day. I love it even more because Mandi Mapes was able to display the amazing gifts that God has placed in her life through her testimony and her talents. Mandi is the girl singing those songs and she wrote them all as well. If you like, you can get them on iTunes.

One Single Struggle

I started this post as another edition of Blog-Linkity Goodness but this one link I have to share kind of calls for a whole post of its own.

Let me preface...

Lately, I've been burdened a bit (read: a lot) by the direction my life is headed. I've prayed for many years Psalm 37:4.

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

I think for a long time I've just been praying the second half of that verse.

Recently, I've really been confronted with frustration about my singleness. If you would have asked me four years ago if I would still be single at the age of 26, I would have laughed in your face and told you my whole wedding plan.

Nowadays, I'll tell you my whole wedding plan, but I just am not laughing as hard anymore.

So many thoughts run through my head. My parents were married at my age. My sister was four years younger than me when she got married. All but two of my best friends are married. I see college friends who have now been married for four or five years and are now having their first or second child. Girls who were freshmen when I was a senior in college are married and having kids. I'm watching people live the life that I thought I would be knee deep in by now.

And it is a little bit disheartening. And I guess it is okay because that is the way God made me. He gave me these desires and these emotions for a reason.

However, over the last two or three years, I really started concentrated on the first part of that verse.

"Delight in the Lord."

For a large part of my life, I didn't really understand what that whole "delight" word was about. Except that is was half of the title of the best Stone family dessert - Chocolate Delight.

But God has recentlyshown up in my life in a way that I've never seen before. He has shown me things about myself and Himself that I had failed to notice before. And I think that I wasn't noticing those things because I wasn't looking for them and I had been distracted.

I'm a believer in the notion that nothing is coincidence. God has a purpose and plan for everything that happens in our life because it all fits in to His will to bring glory to His name.

I think the mixture of maturity and singleness, along with the grace of God and the love of family and friends, have made me who I am today. I think that at the end of high school and throughout my college career, I was distracted by the feeling of falling in love and finding a husband when I should have been actively pursuing my One True Love.

I had replaced desire to be loved and fulfilled by God, the one who loved me first and will never stop loving me, with the desire to fall in love to a guy and be married and start a family.

It's what every girl dreams of, right? The guy, the proposal, the ring, the dress, the church, the house, the picket fence.

What I have just become to grasp is that I've been going about it all wrong.

God has commanded us to love him with all our heart and soul and mind and strength and to love each other as we would love ourselves. THEN everything else flows from that.

I have realized that what I need to focus on is being in the center of God's will. After that, everything will fall in place. And if I'm not pursuing a relationship with God day after day, what the heck am I doing? Why would I not want to spend my time getting to know the person who created me, who knows my ins and outs and still loves me anyway. Isn't that really what all of us girls are looking for in a guy anyway?

You know, Psalm 37:4 is written the way it is written for a reason. In elementary school, we are taught cause and effect right? One thing leads to the other. If push the gas pedal on my car (cause), it goes (effect).

When we delight in God, when we actively pursue him and long to fall deeply in love with him, his desires become our desires.

I know there were times when I dated a guy and became interested in something that he was passionate about because he shared that passion with me. And vice versa. That's what happens in our relationship with God.

After "the break-up" my junior year of college, I really (surprising myself and taking a lot of advice from my sister) dove deep into God's word and tried to figure out where my fulfillment was coming from. Was it coming from God or was it coming from this boy? Before I could really figure that out, I became entangled in that relationship and again and never really learned that lesson. It took God transplanting me into a completely new life for me to figure out that was tapping into the wrong source of fulfillment.

So...I say all that to say this. This morning I stumbled upon, or shall I say, God led me to Jimmy Needham's website for a reason. Not only is this guy and talented musician who loves the Lord and writes about it from his heart, he's given his wife, Kelly - a girl who struggled with the same burden I am currently struggling with - an outlet to share her story and to encourage girls like me. The wisdom and humility in what she writes is overwhelming and I found myself feeling like I was reading the inside of my own heart.

I know that I'm not the only girl struggling with this burden because I know that I'm not the only girl out there who feels like the desires of her heart aren't being satisfied on the timeline that she thinks they should. So I wanted to share Kelly's Page with all of you fellow singles out there.

Kelly gives some amazing insight in how she walked through this struggle before meeting Jimmy and backs it up with some incredible scripture. As all things should be.

One of my favorite quotes (because I have a lot) from what she writes is this: "Instead of finding fulfillment in Jimmy, I found in him an incredible gift from God that daily turns my attentions back toward Jesus. I love that our God is a jealous God. he longs so much for our affection, that he won't give us anything that will threaten his place in our hearts."

I don't want my husband to be a distraction from my affection towards God. I want our relationship to be a gift that we praise him and give him glory for everyday of our lives. Because that kind of love only comes from God and only He alone is worthy of the glory.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 2.24.10

A few nuggets from the interweb. Click away.

1. SWAT Team. Jarvis Varnado is eight blocks away from breaking the all-time record for blocked shots. It could happen tonight against Alabama. Great article.

2. What's an edition of Blog-Linkity Goodness without something from Jon Acuff? Dude is legit and writes in a way that just makes me want to read his stuff over and over and over. This post is one part gross a thousand parts ugly truth sprinkled, okay maybe drowning, in a whole lot of God.

3. Some goodness written by one of my favorites, BooMama, over at All-Access. That quote for Beth Moore? Does it come in a yogurt flavor? Because all I want to do is pour a bunch of rainbow sprinkles on it and eat it all up.

4. This video had me weeping at my desk early this morning. Not only is the video good but this guy's voice is nutso incredible.

5. Seen this before. Except it was a frat boy in his boxers smeered with all kinds of unmentionable stinky things and hog-tied to a 2x4. And he had just gotten engaged.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 2.9.10

1. This article from Mississippi State University's newspaper really makes me miss being in college. Sure I'm still around college athletics everyday, but there's nothing in this world like MSU baseball and the Left Field Lounge.

2. LOST Thoughts, by Bryan Allain. Good stuff.

3. It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Dan Mullen!

4. Jon Acuff's warnings about awkward singles events.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 1.28.10

A few web gems today...

1. God sent this message to me today via Donald Miller and his blog. I've been struggling for about a year now about fulfillment in Jesus Christ and how I just can't get enough to be happy. Click away and find out what I did.

2. A neat little ESPN story about Samford's head basketball coach and his "new lease on life" after suffering a seizure during a game on Saturday. That Andy Katz. He's a good 'un.

3. I think Annie Parsons and I are on the same page about this one. Especially about the parallels.

Good day to you.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 1.20.10

That's weird that I just had to type 10 instead of 09. I mean I've done it for almost a month now but somehow it was more weird just now.

Anyway, here are some interesting bits that I've found around the internets lately.

1. My mom and I have discussed at length several times the unfairness of the SEC basketball schedule this year. (Yes, my mom and I discuss sports more than my dad and I do. Dysfunctional yet it works.) Due to the television deals the conference has made, many teams are playing Thursday-Saturday stint with little to no time to prepare. For example, in February, Mississippi State plays Ole Miss on a Thursday, Auburn on a Saturday and Kentucky on the next Tuesday. That's three games against three tough teams in six days. It does help that the games are all in Starkville but imagine if those were all road games. The Bulldogs wouldn't be given a chance going into the game against Kentucky. Anyway, all this to say, Jerry Tipton of the Herald-Leader in Kentucky wrote great article about this situation.

2. Paps is making history with his contract. Dude signed a one-year contract worth $6.25 million, the largest deal in history for a closer who was eligible for arbitration for the first time. Just one question, at 26 years of age, am I still eligible for adoption?

3. Last sports story. Promise. This was just too good not to share. Good times, Knoxville. Good times.

4. This post by Jon Acuff spoke straight to my heart and made me realize that sometimes God has a purpose for making us invisible.

5. This angers me to no end. People are dying left and right from curable injuries because plane after plane with medical supplies are not being allowed to land in Haiti. There is a hospital three hours from Port-au-Prince filled to the brim with injured people that is about to have to shut down because they don't have enough supplies to treat the people there.

It's frustrating to sit here in my comfortable chair in my sturdy office and on my comfortable couch in my warm home in from of my televisioni and watch the days go by where, in the midst of miracle after miracle of survivors being pulled from week-old rubble, the death toll escalates because people with broken legs and broken arms are dying because they aren't getting treated.

God, help these people!

Blog-Linkity Goodness 12.4.09

1. This post at (In)Courage yesterday blessed my soul to no end.

2. For those fans of the movie, A Christmas Story, here are a couple of fun links for crazed fans.

3. This story at ESPN also blessed my soul. A real kid, dealing with real problem, backed by real friends.

4. The Christian Rap. I found this humorous.

5. Six grand has been raised to build two more kindergartens in Vietnam. $60,000. That's a 6 with four of those "0" things behind it. Read about it here. Ain't God awesome?!?!

6. If you haven't checked out the Mocha Club Experience, please go check it out now. Two college guys giving up three months, including the biggest holidays of the year with their families, and going all over Africa to show the world what Mocha Club is doing with their projects.

The last video they posted was about their safari in the Masai Mara. Check it out.

A Safari Adventure: Webisode 8 from Mocha Club on Vimeo.

7. And this...

Blog-Linkity Goodness 11.16.09

1. This guy haItalics the right idea. Who knew you could make $83,000 a year just by selling the shirt off your back.

2. This post by Katie over at The Journey broke my heart and made it smile all at the same time. If only I could have the faith to abandon myself to God's call like she has.

3. How observant are you?

I did okay. I think I got about 10 out of the 21.

4. And if you haven't checked out the Mocha Club Experience, go do it now. These guys are giving up holidays with their families to go to seven countries in Africa for three months and visit some of the projects that Mocha Club is supporting. Why? So that they can show us first hand what our money is helping do in Africa. If you are a supporter and feel the tug to do so, click here and find a project that hits home for you. And then donate. It's just $7 a month.

5. And finally, click here to see how much money has been raised for the kindergartens in Vietnam. After raising $30,000 in 18 hours for one, so many people have joined Jon in raising $60,000 for two more kindergartens. As of today, $44,614 has been raised. So if I calculated that right, that leaves $15,386 that still needs to be raised. Will you give?

Blog-Linkity Goodness 11.4.09 and Random Dozen

Here are a few things I came across yesterday and today and I wanted to share the love. Also, as an added bonus, Lid's Random Dozen. As if you, didn't already know enough about me.

1. This video completely made my morning. My day was top-notch after viewing this. 252 yards of maroon and white goodness.

2. Boomama's post yesterday was one of my most favorite in a while. And she "wasn't even planning to write this post". Go read it now. It mentions Steven Curtis Chapman, if that helps at all.

3. Jon Acuff's post yesterday on Stuff Christians Like was all about "rooting for Tim Tebow". And if you know me, this is a cause I can get behind. Quarterback keep. Hut one. Hut two.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. It's early morning, about 2:00AM, and you're driving home. You come to a red light and sit there. There is no one in sight for miles around. Do you wait it out or run the light?
I used to do this all the time in Starkville. Well, not all the time. There was this one light though, between fraternity row and Bost Extension that never, EVER turned green late at night. Even when no one was coming the other way. I literally waited one night for 10 minutes for it to change in it never did, so I went. Sue me.

2. If you had the chance to re-do the last 24 hours, would you change anything?
I would have gotten more work done yesterday.

3. When you reply to someone's comment on your blog, do you reply in your comments or go to her blog and comment? (Or email her)
I usually go to the other person's blog to comment.

4. Your favorite Disney movie is:
Toss-up. Mary Poppins, The Lion King or The Santa Clause movies.

5. Do you recycle?
I used to at the place I lived at before I moved but they don't come and pick up recycling where I live now. However, I will recycle if there is a receptical nearby.

6. Games of strategy or games of chance?
Totally strategy. More opportunities to win. You can control stategy. You can't control chance. That's why I don't gamble. Plus I like to figure things out. I'm a puzzle nerd.

7. Do you have any recurring dreams?
I used to have a lot of them when I was little. There is one, though, now that tends to come back often. I'm at a water park. That's about all I can recall.

8. What did you learn from your first real job?
I learned how to make a mean sno-cone.

9. Do you buy or borrow most books?
I like to buy because I like to write in my books.

10. What fashion trend of the past did you say you'd never wear again but did?
I don't think I've wore anything again that I have before. I will never where sturrip pants again, though. Or roll my jeans. I did cave on the leggings thing though.

11. When do you start Christmas shopping?
I pretty much Christmas shop all year round. If I see something that I know someone would like, I'll get it then. If I have the money. But usually I'm buying presents like two weeks before.

12. Have you ever been so happy that you literally jumped up and down for a few seconds? If so, what was the occasion?
Yes. Most of them have had to do with the Mississippi State Bulldogs winning. You know, it's a big deal when we win these days in football. I do have to say that the most crazy I've ever gone after winning a game was after we beat Alabama at their place in 2004 to win the SEC outright.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 10.22.09

1. This is good to see. Although, I pretty much wore jeans and t-shirt to class everyday in college, I was not a proponent for "PJs in public." I found it quasi-imposing to see someone in their pajamas in class.

Morehouse has taken it to another level. No cross-dressing has been added to the list. It's sad to see that it has come to this...at an all-male college, no less.

Click here for a little history on Morehouse to give you a little insight as to why this dress code is such a big deal. I applaud it. You've got to uphold the reputation of a place like this.

2. This post by Sophie at the All-Access blog is a reminder I need every day that John 16:33 is solid truth. It also makes me excited to read to my kids one day.

3. This movie is bound to be great. It's got the one ingredient you need -- Denzel.

4. This one has a lot of hype around it. It looks pretty good. What do you think?

4. Jon Foreman, of Switchfoot, wrote a really good article at Huffington Post about what a real hero is. Check it out.

5. This post by Shaun Groves lays out what it means when we say that the Kingdom of Heaven is here on earth.

6. I can't get enough of the Florida vs. Mississippi State/Dan Mullen vs. Tim Tebow hype that is going aroud this week. I wish I could be there to see the game and so that Tim Tebow could finally meet his future wife, ahem, me (So what if he's five years younger than me?). But I will be finally get to go on a volleyball roadtrip with m' girls. I will get to watch it on television and Matt the Trainer (a faithful Gator fan) and I will have to be confined to seperate rooms lest the madness turn into weeping and gnashing of teeth.

7. This video is awesomely hilarious and I proudly post it here in honor of our volleyball coach.

8. I've always wondered what it would be like for a musical to break out in a grocery store. Improv Everywhere made that happen. Watch and enjoy. And maybe sing along.

9. This is just sad.

10. Bryan Allain is awesomely hilarious, but his break from funny today results in this post which was awesomely humling and convicting for me.

11. My sweet friends Amanda and Luke Cantrell just had (well, within the last six months) a precious little girl named Kate. They've been married for almost two years and are possibly the cutest couple ever. I knew Luke way before I became Amanda's Kappa Delta sister so when they started dating it was fun for me to see the two worlds collide. I couldn't pick a better person for each and Luke made his first appearance on Amanda's blog today with this precious post. I can only hope I have a guy like this one day.

12. Everyone knows that my three favorite quarterbacks right now are Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, and Sam Bradford. For a few obvious reasons. However, you know I have to throw in Tyson Lee, of course, since he is at the helm of the Bulldog ship these days. I've seen him in interviews, and he presents himself well. All his teammates and coaches talk highly of him, and I even know a couple of people that went to high school with him that just say that he's an awesome person. This article just solidifies that.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 10.12.09

1. Y'all know I love me some Olympics. Especially when Michael Phelps is involved. But this has nothing to do with Michael Phelps. Golf and rugby will be included in the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. I think this should be pretty awesome, especially since they are bringing golf back where it essentially started, in Britain.

2. So, this makes me really thankful that I live in America, considering the amount of speeding tickets I've had in my driving lifetime so far. Remind me to just not drive in Finland or Canada.

3. According to this, I should probably proofread more. Especially in this economic state.

4. Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples". No offense, but I put forth great effort in getting out of bed at 6 a.m. everyday and am not really successful. So what's my prize? Now, I'm not saying that Obama is a bad president or that he doesn't deserve to get this award maybe one day in the future. I'm just saying what everyone else is saying -- it's just a smidge premature, don't you think?

5. This guy is one smart parking attendant.

6. This guy forgot that the helmet is supposed to protect you from having your head split open, not assist you in the process.

7. Have you seen the previews for this 2010 movie? No? Take a look.

Looks pretty cool, huh? I can't wait to see it. I'm a sucker for some wicked CGI movie stuff. But there's one thing bothering me about this movie. It's killing me how so many people are freaked out about this. Even the Maya have now said that this prediction is untrue and that have no idea what it's all about. A little hint to all the people out there freaking out -- go read the New Testament of the Holy Bible especially Mark 13:22.27, 32-33, Acts 1:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 and pretty much the whole book of Revelation.

I guess that's reason that I'm not freaking out. Because I have faith that what I believe in is true and although I'd love to get married and have children and such, I know that if the world ended today, I'd be marching up to heaven with my Savior and Father.

8. And while we're on the subject of the Bible, there's a new Jesus movie in the works -- a word-for-word, verse-by-verse film adaptation of the Gospel according to John. It's to be called, Jesus...No Greater Love. Check out the press release here. And donate if you feel called to do so.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 9.30.09

1. First, let me just say, I'm not going to get into the whole Black History Month, reparations, reverse racism conversation. I grew up in public school with black friends, some of those being my best friends at times. Overall, I don't understand the whole racism thing, but then again I wasn't around for the things that went on 40, 50, 60 or even 200 years ago. I do understand that there are people in all races that can ruin perceptions for their own races by the actions that they have chosen to display. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch, right? It's not a black/white issue. It's not a Native American, Latin American, Asian American issue. It's the fact that we haven't fully learned how to love each other with the love that God has shown us. That's the real issue here.

This kid is 11 years old. And his wisdom confounds me. Mad props to his parents for instilling beliefs in him that all men are created equal and are responsible for his/her own destiny despite his/her race, creed or socio-economic background.

Although I have to admit that I was guilty of using this word is reference to a coule of friends in high school, I now agree with this kid. This word sends chills up my spine when I hear it in any forum these days.

Just take a look.

2. Another video. If you've got 12 minutes to spare, please watch this. I need this guy to yell at me every day to snap me out of my sin-filled false reality. This is complete boldness in the Word of God and the only Truth can save us from eternal damnation.

"A good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit."

3. This post by Melanie blessed my soul in a big way today. I love when married women share their insights on being single, because they've all been through it before. And she's right, the hardest part of waiting is the waiting. But I can't sit around a wish for the day when I will be "made whole" by another person because I'm being "made whole" right now in God.

4. Bryan Allain never fails to give me a laugh first thing in the morning. And this post that he has up today is classic and priceless. And if involves Jack Bauer.

5. And just for a little bonus, I found this while Google searching the Wikipedia of Jack Bauer.

6. John Travolta coming to his senses about Scientology? Let's hope so. I've actually prayed about this many times. When his son died, I prayed for this family for a week. I felt a little stupid for praying for a celebrity, but celebrities are real people too, right? I don't understand how someone can be a part of a religion that doesn't acknowledge sicknesses that its members have. They just ignore it or call it something else and don't treat it or cry out to God, the Only One who can cure it, on behalf of that person. This is why God made people who become doctors. I'm going to keep praying that this situation while drive Travolta and his wife as well as other people to look closely at what they really believe and eventually find the One True God.

7. Lastly, as a former cheerleader, this caught my eye. These girls have been using scripture on their signs since 2003 and now they are being told it's a violation of the First Amendment. Personally, I think the whole First Amendment card is played way to much to the point that people are confused of what it actually means. Anyway, if cheerleaders can put sayings on signs that say, "Cage the Tigers" and get no response from PETA (the most overly sensative organization on planet Earth, I think these girls should be able to put whatever they want on their signs as long as it's family friendly. And this coming from the girl that okay-ed a sign her senior year that said "Burn Natchez (Matches) Burn". Yikes.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 9.16.09

Some webby goodness on this dreary day.

- Jessica Turner at The Mom Creative shared this precious video of Mr. Rogers. I don't care what people say about him, this guy was a huge part of my childhood afternoons.

- My dad shared this video the other day on his blog. Stupid pet tricks is my favorite. I don't know why this is so funny, but it so is.

- Allison at Anointed With Grace wrote an amazing post about extending grace to others. Read it now.

- This post by the Pioneer Woman gave me an excuse not to be ashamed about my recently acquired mismatched flatware.

- I love Annie Downs' writing. I love her videos even more. Or maybe equally because her writing is pretty hard to beat. Anyway, her video about buying a mixer is pretty darn funny.

- I also love history, Mississippi, the SEC and football. This article by The Clarion Ledger's sports editor, Rick Cleveland (a.k.a. The Guv), is probably one of my most favorite things I've read in a long time.

- And of course, what is an edition of Blog-Linkity Goodness if I didn't link to Stuff Christians Like? Take a look at John Acuff's Five Commandments of Church League Sports. (And just as a bonus, read what his thoughts are on the whole Kanye West thing. He makes a very valid point and I'm now convicted of my judgment.)

Blog-Linkity Goodness (or craziness) 9.10.09

- This is what Charlie Sheen's says about 9/11. No wonder I've hated everything he's done in the entertainment industry. He's nutty anyway.

- American Idol has replaced Paula Abdul. And they've put Ellen in here place. Brace yourselves America. I remember when she was a guest host on this past season of So You Think You Can Dance. She was funny, but I think I might have had to throw something at the TV had she been there all season. She and Kara should make an interesting pair.

- This is probably the greatest prank attempt for college student, but the most dumb one at the same time. 470 feet of extension cord? Really? Ever heard of this?

- Only in Detroit (I know, I was stuck there overnight this summer) can a person get 45 traffic violations and NOT go to jail because "Detroit and Highland Park police lacked jail space". And only in Detroit will you get a response like the following from an officer of the law when asked about the lack of jail space: "It's just a little hole in the system," says Lt. William Wilson of the Ferndale Police Department. "And so, there's the ability to keep skating along like she did."

- This is like shouting "Go To Hell Ole Miss" during the National Anthem. Except it's kinda funny in this situation.

- Who talks about their sexcapades in a Capitol hearing room?! Apparently, this guy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In other non-news related linkage:

- I don't cook, but this recipe for shrimp quesadillas on the Pioneer Woman's blog makes me want to actually attempt to cook a meal.

- This post of John Acuff's about child-like bravery was very inspiring.

- Laminin by Louie Giglio. I've shared it before and I'm sharing it again. It's so powerful.

Until next time...

Blog-Linkity Goodness 9.1.09

A few interwebby gems to wet your appetite this fine Tuesday.

Andy Merrick is back on the blogging scene after a six month hiatus and I was so excited to see a new post from him yesterday. Today's was even better. As Bon Jovi would say...shot through the heart.

This edition of Bryan Allain's Ramblings is so classic. I tried to pick a favorite and I couldn't. That's how good it is. Read. Laugh. Love.

Everyone is always trying to get that perfect picture of themselves. I love photography. I love taking pictures. And I always have my point-and-shoot stashed in my purse just for those special photo ops. Jeremy Cowart is an incredible photographer that has come up with an awesome idea to give everyone a chance to get that one perfect picture of themselves...for free. Check it out here.

This girl won the lottery when she was sixteen and spent it all on fake boobs, drugs and about 50 new wardrobes. A lesson to the English, this is why you have to be 21 or older to play the lottery in the United States. We can't keep people from making dumb choices, but we can at least give them a chance to educate themselves first.

This one is for my mom and sister. They're all about eating some cookie dough fresh out of the package. This lady is dying from it. Lesson learned. This is why we BAKE the dough before we eat it.

And last but not least:

(And I usually don't comment this much but I just can't help myself today...)

Someone sew this lady up. We've all heard of the Duggars, right? And if you haven't, then you're obviously not watching enough TLC. The Duggars, who currently have 18 children -- the oldest who is recently married and is expecting grandbaby numero uno with said wife this fall, the youngest who is a mere eight months (EIGHT MONTHS) -- recently announced on the Today Show that they were expecting their 19th child -- NINETEENTH CHILD!!! -- on March 18th.

Now I'm no family expert and I'm in no position to say anything about how many children one should have, lest judge, but for the love of all that is good and holy and for the sake of maternal sanity, why -- dear Lord, tell me why -- would you want to birth 19 children?!?!

Have you seen this woman? She has to have the most sweet, compassionate, mild-tempered personality I've ever seen a woman have, much less a woman with 18 children. God knows I love my momma, but I'm pretty sure two was enough for her. I'm sure that if she had even had two of ME, it might have driven her to the crazy side of Bananas Avenue.

But I've become a little suspicious of the fact that Mrs. Duggar is so incredibly sweet and mild-tempered and have thought once or twice or 33 times that she might have a never-ending epidural hangover going on. There might be a little (or a lot) bit of the happy juice still flowing through her veins.

Someone needs to do a scientific experiment on this woman. She's got some crazy supernatural fertility going on. She could be a superhero. Fertile Woman. The Super Baby-Maker. Someone call the Greeks because we've just found their goddess of fertility right here in the U.S. of A.

But seriously, God bless the Duggars. My hat is off to a family that can do what they do and give God the glory for it. I don't really know a lot about their religious beliefs but I do know that they strive to do everything in their life according to God's will. And those are my kind of people.

Just don't call me to babysit.

Blog-Linkity Goodness 8.17.09

Donald Miller, author of great books like Blue Like Jazz and Searching For God Knows What, has a blog. And this post from the other day spoke to my heart because self-pity is something I struggle with constantly as a single girl. Read it. Now.

Do you like free stuff? Books, Chik-fil-a, t-shirts? Go here. The Church Of No People is here to hook you up.

I hesitated to share this but you can't deny that the man has a point. What do you think of first when you see these icons?

Tyler Stanton's installment of Irrational Communication today was spot on for me. I am guilty of every single one of these when it comes to showing concern in conversation. I get it from my momma.
